Edmund J. Woronicz Sr.
Edmund J. Woronicz Sr., age 91, of Bridgewater died Easter Sunday April 16, 2017 at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, after a period of declining health. Born and raised in Bridgewater, Ed was a son of the late Stanislaw and Bronislawa (Zakszewska). He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School Class of 1943 Ed was a proud Army Veteran of World War II. He served our country in the European Theater in both France and Germany and often shared accounts of his experiences with family and friends. Ed was best known around Bridgewater as the owner of Eddies Bar and Grill, and The Western Auto Store later becoming Eds Hardware. Along with his devoted wife Rose, both were familiar faces in the Bridgewater business community for well over 50 years. The Central Square location was a popular gathering spot for local residents. Ed was landlord to the many businesses within his commercial building and could be found daily tending to his property even in retirement, until its recent sale. Many a Bridgewater youngster received their first bicycles from his store. Ed was a lifelong communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater. His deep faith helped him endure many health issues throughout his life. Ed was a tireless volunteer for many years at The St. Vincent de Paul pantry housed at the Parish Center. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Rose (Sgarbi) Woronicz. A daughter, Nancy Buono and her husband Robert of East Bridgewater and a son, Edmund Jr. of Inverness, Illinois. Also survived by a brother Stephen and his wife Louann. Brother-in-law to William and Helen ODonnell of Bridgewater and their family. Uncle Eddie to several generations of nieces and nephews. Ed was also the brother to the late Henry Woronicz, Elivira Parenteau and Irene Paglierani. He was the father-in-law of the late Karen (Peterson) Woronicz. He will be lovingly remembered as a huge Patriots fan, hard worker, generous spirit, proud of his Polish heritage and his dry sense of humor. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St., Bridgewater. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. Visitation held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the funeral home.
