Edith M. Sarneso
Edith M. (Lena) Sarneso, 87, of Latrobe, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at her home. She was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Otto and Martha (Berger) Lena. Edith graduated from Latrobe High School, the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., the Latrobe Hospital School of Nursing and received her master's in education from Penn State University. Prior to retirement, Edith was the director of Nursing at Torrance State Hospital. She also served in private practice as a registered pediatric nurse practitioner. Her nursing career spanned more than 50 years. Edith was a lifelong member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe where she was a CCD and RCIA instructor. She was also a member of the Oblates of St. Vincent and volunteered for the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Latrobe. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially of her beloved Buccos. She loved her family immensely. She especially enjoyed holidays and vacations at the beach with her family all around her. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Sarneso, in 1976; and her sister, Dorothy Wellek. She is survived by 10 children and their families: Matthew Sarneso (Maxine) and their children, Theodore and Natalie Sarneso and Lucille McCready (Justin); Mark Sarneso (Karen) and their children, Nicholas (Emily) and Anna and their grandchildren, Lexi and Sadie; Angela Sarneso; Regina Ellenberger (Don) and their children, Rachel, Julia and John; Virginia Grainer (Peter) and their children, Andrew (Kelsey), Meghan, and Rebekah and their grandson, Aiden; Maria Pieffer (Jim) and their children, T.J. and Daniel; John Sarneso (Lisa) and their children, Elizabeth and Caroline; Donna Sarneso; B.J. Sarneso (Betsy) and their daughter, Libby; and Carmella Stadter (Patrick) and their children, Kate and Emily. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent Basilica, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe. Everyone please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
