Duane Lee Boone Sr.
Hubert | Duane Lee Boone Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, October 20, 2016, at Queens Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Gandy officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell Family Cemetery in Bear Creek. Born on the Boone Farm in Traverse City, MI on May 10, 1934, with his twin brother, Dean Loren Boone. He is the son of the late Daniel J. and Lucille W. Boone. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He and his twin brother each served on the destroyers USS Tucker and USS Mason as radio men. After serving his four years, Duane mustered out at the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. He returned to Traverse City, MI. to work as a cherry grower while attending Michigan State University. He became a sales manager with EZ-Flow Farm Chemicals in Ohio, where he and Rose met. They were married in 1967, at Queens Creek United Methodist Church. In 1987, they moved back to Hubert, NC where he worked in Real Estate with C-21 American Properties until he retired in 2011. Duane is survived by wife, Rose Marie Russell Boone of the home; sons, Myron D. Boone (Rita) of Albuquerque, NM, Carl R. Handley (Shawn) of Columbus, OH, Chuck P. Handley of Columbus, OH, and Duane L. Boone Jr. and fiancé Erica Ruiz of Raleigh, NC; brothers, twin Dean L. Boone of Charlotte, MI and James D.
