Dorthy Jean Binder RALLS-Dorthy Jean Binder, 89, of Ralls went to be with her Lord, Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. Dorthy came into this world on Sept. 11, 1927, born to Glenn and Mary Jones Scroggins, in Mt. Calm, Texas. She graduated from Ralls High School in 1945 and married Lawrence Binder on April 23, 1947, in Waco Texas. Dorthy farmed and lived south of Ralls for 66 years where she was a homemaker except for the five years that she worked for Danners Department Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative council, a lay leader, and member of the United Methodist Women for over 50 years. Dorthy was Den Mother for the Boy Scouts for nine years, was a Girl Scout leader for 16 years and was associated with scouting programs for 30 years. In 1995 she was awarded the Woman of Distinction for Girl Scouting. Dorthy won the Hall of Honor award from the 4-H organization and was a FFA supporter for many years being an honorary member. Dorthy and her family were awarded the Family of the Year by the Ralls Chamber of Commerce in 1968. She loved to read, garden, travel, and dance. Dorthy was a member of three Senior Citizen groups in Ralls, Slaton and Lubbock. She was a member of many different sewing and quilting clubs, including the Prairie Thimble Quilting Club. In her senior years, she spent time taking friends to doctor appointments. Dorthy had a giving heart and was always serving others. Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Lawrence on March 14, 1998. Dorthy is survived by a daughter, Sue Starkey and husband, Floyd of Ralls; two sons, Bill Binder and wife, Gayle of Abilene, and Bobby Binder and wife, Rita of Ralls; and a brother, Tommy Scroggins of Commerce. Dorthy also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at the First United Methodist in Ralls. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
