In memory of
Dorothy Nell Hudson Thrift
1924 - 2017 Dorothy Hudson Thrift passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2017, joining her beloved husband Terry of 70 years who predeceased her by three days. Dot loved celebrating life at every opportunity. She had a way of bringing joy and beauty into every circumstance of life, ever-ready for fun and adventure. She was adored by Terry and devoted to family. She delighted in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. Dot overlooked no way of enriching, supporting, and encouraging each member of her family. Together with Terry, they created homes of unusual beauty and imparted an appreciation of beauty to their family. Dot was gifted with an artistic eye and light-heartedly called herself a "Purveyor of Fine Goods." Yet her love for beauty came from the heart and expressed itself in many creative and tender ways. She took special joy in times together as family at Rancho Diana in Helotes, and in travel throughout the world with Terry. Dot was born in Tyler, Texas on December 2, 1924 and was the last living member of her immediate family. Her parents were Henry Clifton Hudson and Myrtie Bowers Hudson. Her brother and sisters were Dean Hudson, Christine Skidmore and Edna Hudson. She leaves her children Jill Thrift, Barbie Beach and her husband Douglas, and Terry Thrift lll and his wife Kathie. She also leaves six grandchildren, Bryan Beach, Tyler Beach, Graham Beach and his wife Jennifer, Kyle Thrift and his wife Taylor, Hudson Thrift, Taylor Thrift, and one great grandchild, Ryland Beach. Her family is deeply appreciative of a special friendship over many years with Carolina Barajas, and for her loving care of Dot. Dot attended Tyler High School, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1944. While in her junior year at the university during the Second World War, she met her future husband Terry Thrift Jr., who was stationed at nearby Camp Swift. After the war they married on July 20, 1946 and made their home in San Antonio. Dot was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, and more recently of the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. She held the belief that she would live for eternity with Jesus Christ and with others who shared her faith in Him. A service celebrating the lives of Dot and Terry will be held at the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Garden Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Dot's grandchildren. A reception at the church will follow the service. Her family desires to express their deep appreciation to the special friendships with which she and Terry have been blessed over the years. You are invited to sign the guestbook at Arrangements with
