Dorothy L. Ransom AGE: 86 • New Castle Dorothy L. Ransom (Aunt Dot) of New Castle, Delaware passed away peacefully on October 16, 2016 with family by her side. She was 86. Dot grew up in New Castle, graduating from William Penn High School in 1948. She maintained lifelong friendships with her Class of '48. Dot went on to graduate from Columbia University and worked for many years as a pediatric RN and supervising nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Dot valued education and family. During her years in New York, she took two leaves, once to care for her grandmother and a second time to care for her mother. While in New York, Dot for many years provided foster care for one of her young patients, Nellie, who was profoundly ill. After retiring in 1992, Dot spent a brief period of time with family in Denver, Colorado. She eventually returned to her family home in New Castle. Dot had many happy years of retirement enjoying reading, music and a love of flowers. Most of all, she loved spending time with her many great nieces and nephews--always instilling in them the importance of a quality education. Dot will be remembered for her friendly wit and cherubic smile. She will be missed. Dot was predeceased by her father, Donald L. Ransom, Sr., her mother, Mabel L. Ransom, her sister, Winifred C.
