DOROTHY JANE KEHR, 93, a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Heritage of Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 6, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Gonga ware) Stapleton. She attended Elmhurst High School. Dorothy was a homemaker, caring for her family, and also worked at the Jefferson House as a seamstress for 12 years. She was a warm and gracious person who enjoyed sharing her love of baking with all, and her famous cookies were a highly anticipated part of her hospitality. "She was just the best," according to her grandchildren (and everyone else who knew her.) She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Michael) Gibbs of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Megan (Christopher) Wiegand of Fort Wayne and Jonathan Gibbs of Utah; and sisters, Gladys Franks of Auburn and Marjorie Winn of Fort Wayne. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Kehr, in 2000; and siblings, Jack Stapleton, Helen Bland and Harry Stapleton. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46809), with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association or donor's choice.
