Dorothy Grogan, 92, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab, in Black Mountain, NC. Mrs. Grogan was born in Yancey Co., on September 8, 1925, to the late John Henry Wilson and Mary Catherine Lanning Wilson. She was a member of Salem Free Will Baptist Church in Old Fort. Mrs. Grogan was a pastors' wife and she took great care of her husband and all the duties and responsibilities that come along with her role in the churches they were ministering throughout the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden and then she canned the fruits of her labor. Most of all, she loved the Lord, her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Calvin Grogan; a daughter, Judy Ledford; brothers, Bill, Jim and Richmond Wilson.; sisters, Maggie Allison, Bertha Simmons, Lillie Belle Durham, Agnes Leatherman and Marie Roland. Surviving Mrs. Grogan are her sons, Alvin (Carolyn) Grogan of Black Mtn., NC, Jack (Nancy) Grogan, of Pisgah Forest, NC, and Harold (Judy) Grogan, of Black Mtn., NC; son in law, Richard Ledford, of Old Fort; ten grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family of Mrs. Grogan would like to say a very special thank you to the staff at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab in Black Mtn. for the loving care you gave to their mother and to her family. It was deeply appreciated. A Graveside Committal Service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Cherry Springs Memorial Park in Old Fort. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastors Jeremy Shoulta and Vincent White. Kirksey Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Grogan family with arrangements.
