Dorothy H. Gerrish, 85, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2017 at Overlook in Charlton after a long illness. Dot's husband, W. Scott Gerrish, Sr., died in 1991. Dot is survived by her loving children, W. Scott Gerrish, Jr. and his wife Amy of Brimfield, W. Shepard Gerrish and his wife Joanne of Pawling, NY and James Gerrish and his wife Julie of Fiskdale. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Joseph and Maria-Chace Gerrish of Hampden; Jacob, Jordan and William Gerrish of NY, and Lauren and Luke Gerrish of Fiskdale. Dot also leaves her loving sister-in-law; Sarah Mase of Spencer/Charlton and many loved nieces and nephews. She was born on September 10, 1931 and raised in Riverhead, NY the daughter of the late M. James and Lenore Hendry and her step-mother, Adele Hendry Talmage. She will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Besides Scott Sr and her parents, Dot was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dr George and Tillie Gerrish of Spencer; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Lynn Hendry of Maryland; her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anne and Bing Law of Colorado and Dr Frederic Mase of Spencer. Dot attended Mary Washington College in Virginia and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She met her late Husband on a blind date in Boston. They married on August 22, 1953, and settled first in Spencer and then Brimfield. They also enjoyed their summer home in Quonochontaug, RI. Dot loved her community dearly and volunteered on many town and church committees. When her children were small, she was a Cub Scout den mother and worked part time at Tantasqua Jr High as a reading specialist. In her later years, she was an accomplished Realtor with the former Star Realty in Palmer and then with McInerny & Co Realtors in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. She was also a very talented artist who loved nothing more than to spend afternoons painting with her friends. Many of her works will be displayed at her Celebration of Life event. A Celebration of Dot's Life will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Barn at Wight Farm, 420 Main Street, Sturbridge, MA.
