Doris E. Steeves
Doris Elizabeth Guild Steeves of El Mirage AZ passed away on Sunday morning, November 27, 2016. She was 93 years old. Doris was born in Hartford, CT on October 21, 1923 to Elizabeth and Alfred Guild. She graduated from Hartford High School, then went on to work in the Insurance business for many years. Doris worked as an underwriter in marine insurance at Traveler's Insurance Company. She also was a teacher's aide in the West Hartford School System. Doris had a brother named Russell who only lived to age 17. She married Lawrence J. Steeves in 1942 and they settled in Manchester and West Hartford CT. As her family, we spent many summers camping, fishing, and swimming in several state parks in CT, Maine, and Canada. One summer vacation we drove across the United States and Canada stopping to camp at many campgrounds and several National Parks. Doris was a true christian in every way. Her faith in God was very deep. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Hartford, and a long time worshiper at Community Baptist Church in Manchester. She enjoyed bible study classes and also taught sunday school to children. Doris was involved in bridge card games, painting, bird watching, and loved to read about wildlife and nature. She is survived by her 2 children, Laurie Pijanowski of El Mirage, AZ, and Keith Steeves and wife Conni Levesque of Bolton, CT. Doris has six grandchildren: Corin Gadsby, Rebecca Steeves, Meagan Pijanowski, Kristina Steeves married to Brett Schwenneker, Jeremy Levesque and Philep Levesque. She also has two great-grandchildren. Lucas and Isabella Riall. The family would like to thank Banner Hospice of Phoenix for the amazing care they gave to Doris. The nurses, CNA'S and the chaplin were gentle, caring and compassionate. Her cremated remains will rest forever besides her family in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hartford, CT. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 21st 11 AM, at Community Baptist Church in Manchester, CT.
