Doris Hill Bailey Delmar-Doris Hill Bailey, 89, of Delmar, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at her home. She was born May 6, 1927 in Delmar, a daughter of the late William and Mary Mitchell Hill. Mrs. Bailey attended Delmar High School. For several years she worked as a seamstress for Banks & Pusey Garment Factory, the W.R. Wilson Garment Factory and Rombo Brothers, all before becoming a school bus driver. She drove for Delmar Middle, Delmar High and Sussex Vo-Tech for 22 years until retirement. She also worked on the farm and in the garden that she loved. She enjoyed canning to save some of her home grown produce for winter and to share with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and loved inviting family over for big dinners. She will be especially remembered for her cornbread, cakes, cut greens and really everything she made. She attended Forest Grove Old School Baptist Church and Smith Mills Old School Baptist Church in Delmar and was a member of Peninsula Partners. Her and her late husband, Robert, never had any children of their own, however she always referred to her nephew, Jim Hearne, as her son. In addition to her nephew Jim and his wife, Georgia, she is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bailey, who passed in 1997; brothers, William "Billy" Hill, Robert "Bobby" Hill and Paul Hill; and a sister, Evelyn Hearne. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00. Pastor E.M. Robbins will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
