Donald E. Ward 1935 - 2017 NEW HARTFORD - Donald E. Ward, formerly of Cassville and currently residing at the Presbyterian Home, passed away on January 5, 2017, at the home. He was born on January 6, 1935, in Edwards, NY, the son of the late Edward and Mildred Maxiner Ward. Don's father died when he was an infant and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Mildred and George Bowen. Don and his family relocated to this area and, in 1953, he graduated from Clinton High School. In his early years, he worked hauling milk cans from local farms and later took a job with the Town of New Hartford Highway Department, where he worked his way up to Assistant Superintendent, the position from which he retired. During his years with the highway department, he also worked as an independent cattle dealer. Don is survived by his daughters, Donna Wilson, of Cassville, and Denice and Tom Wilson, of Hermantown, MN; their mother, DeeDee Ward Truax; his grandchildren, Shannon and Jessica Knutti, Heidi and Aaron Moon, Jennifer Wilson and Andrea Wilson and her fiance, Cody Louze; several great-grandchildren; his sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Howlett and Judith and Tony Mariotti; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Bowen; brother-in-law, Arthur Howlett; and his son-in-law, James Wilson. A celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 4:00 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. Calling hours will be from 1:00 until the time of the service.
