Donald Edgar Tewell passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in his home, with his loving family by his side, following a short battle with cancer. He was born May 13, 1937, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Donald Ephriam Tewell and Betty Louise Rush Tewell. Mr. Tewell was a 1955 graduate of Waynesburg High School, Class of 1955. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving with U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three (Seabees MCB3) from 1955-1959, stationed in the Phillipines and Okinawa. He worked for General Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, and new house construction for 10 years. He returned to Greene County, where he worked for several construction companies and United Mine Workers of America Construction projects, R.G. Johnson, Atlas, Dick Corp. and Carbon Resources to name a few. Mr. Tewell enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, football and hockey. One of his hobbies was woodworking and giving his projects away. Samples of his handiwork can be found from coast to coast. He was a devoted husband, father and loyal friend, who will be missed by all. Mr. Tewell was a member and attended Jefferson United Methodist Church. Survivng are his wife of over 56 years, Judy Harrell Tewell; two daughters, Diane (Jim) McManus of Maryland and Deborah Negley of Waynesburg; a son, Thomas Tewell of Waynesburg; three brothers, Terry (Ruth) Tewell of Arizona, Tom (Geremy) of North Carolina and Jeff Tewell of Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a son-in-law, Ciricus "Butch" Negley. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in Jefferson United Methodist Church. The nurses of Amedisys Hospice in Masontown provided great care and compassion.
