Donald B. Sherman, of Boynton Beach, FL and formerly of Longmeadow, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Everyone who knew Don knew that he was a gentleman. Don was a joyful, loving, and kind man. He served proudly in the Navy in WWII. Don had been a retired vice president of American Express Financial Services and was a former member of Sinai Temple. He served on the boards of directors of the Jimmy Fund, Junior Achievement and Employer's Support for the National Guard. Don was a charter member of Twin Hills CC in Longmeadow and a member of Indian Springs CC in Florida. He was an active member of the Longmeadow School's PTA. Don was an avid reader, a skilled bridge player, and volunteered his time to read to the blind. He was predeceased by his wife Martha Sherman, his daughter Nancy Sherman-Davis, his brother Richard Sherman, and his sister Barbara Shamesman. Don leaves his two daughters Andrea (Joseph Gibbons) Sherman of Beverly, MA and Linda (Garry) Sherman-Carlson of Carthage, NC, his son Peter (Joan) Sherman of Longmeadow, his seven grandchildren Melynda Sherman Davis of Ewing, NJ, Nancy (Jonathan) Duryee of Herndon, VA, Matthew (Sarah) Gibbons of Beverly, MA, Andrew (fiance Mariel Gurrieri) Sherman of NYC, Jennifer (Justin) Gill of Decatur, GA, Matthew Sherman of Boston, MA, and Zachary Sherman of Washington, DC, and his two great grandchildren Mason and Brianna Duryee. The family would like to give a special thanks to Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care for their care and support they gave to Don and his family (Diahann Wimmer, Stella O'Brien, and Ellen Rosemond) and his caregiver Clarissa Thomas Henry. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 17th. One memorial observance will be Monday evening at 6:00 PM at the home of Peter Sherman at 23 Duxbury Ln. in Longmeadow.
