Donald W. Shaffer
Donald Webster Shaffer, 88, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, from complications of lung cancer. Memorial service: Burial will be a private graveside service followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Greenwood Chapel. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's name to Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St., Fort Worth, 76102. Don was born in Amarillo on Sept. 24, 1928, to Bert Webster Shaffer and Kittie Ester Shaffer. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Dallas, and the University of Oklahoma. He served as a first lieutenant in the Signal Corps in Korea during the Korean War, and retired after 42 years of service with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which, over the years, bought several of the Bell System Associated Companies, as well as, AT&T itself. Survivors: Don is survived by his son, Sanders and daughter-in-law, Yvonne; and his most dearest and precious, longtime companion, Sue Clover.
