Donald R. Peterson
Peterson, Donald R. Passed away at age 83 on October 15, 2016. Don was born March 17, 1933 in Berlin, Wisconsin, the youngest son of Reuben and Lucille Peterson. He is survived by his older brothers Reuben and George. Don was the loving husband of Helen (nee Frederick) for more than 62 years. Don attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1955 and his law degree (L.L.B.) in 1958. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Don served for eight years in the Army Reserves and was a captain in the J.A.G. Corps. He spent the first part of his career at Borgelt, Powell, Peterson & Frauen law firm. In 1982 he was a founding partner of Peterson, Johnson & Murray law firm in Milwaukee, where he specialized in cases of product liability and medical malpractice defense. Don loved all aspects of trial work. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was regarded as one of Milwaukee's best defense attorneys for many years. A long-time member of the Western Racquet Club and Blue Mound Golf & Country Club, Don loved tennis and golf. He was a state champion in doubles tennis while in high school at Madison West, but never quite perfected his golf game. Don had an incredible desire to read, learn and experience new things, even in his senior years: he took flying lessons, became scuba certified, and began piano lessons. A traveler of the world, with Helen he visited dozens of countries and enjoyed taking adventurous vacations with family and friends. Don is survived by Helen and their four loving children: John (Jill) Peterson, Karen (Greg) Ray, David (Anne) Peterson, and Kathryn (Mark) Kindler. He is further survived by eleven grandchildren: Anne, Michael, and Madeline Peterson; David (Lindsey), and Kevin (Amanda) Ray; John, Eileen, and Elizabeth Peterson; and Thomas, Benjamin, and Andrew Kindler, all of whom will cherish his memory. Visitation will be at Becker Ritter Funeral Home in Brookfield from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM. on Thursday, October 20, with a funeral service at 5:00 PM Reception at Blue Mound Golf & Country Club immediately following. Don received a scholarship when he was a student at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and would like to provide a similar scholarship opportunity for future law students.
