Donald J. Orkwis
Donald Joseph "D.J." Orkwis, 55, of East Vandergrift, formerly of Kiski Township, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 9, 1961, in Kittanning, he was a son of the late Henry R. and Madeline D. (Gallo) Orkwis. D.J. lived in East Vandergrift for the last three years and was a 1979 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School. He worked in construction for several companies, including Knepshield Excavating and Construction. D.J. was a member of the Bari Club, the American Legion Post No. 114 and the VFW and Fireman's Club, all in Vandergrift. D.J. was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and liked watching his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed watching pro-wrestling with his family. D.J. was a skilled cook and used to work as a chef at the former Jack's Restaurant in Sarver. He also liked decorating for the holidays. D.J. is survived by his fiancee, Patricia A. "Patty" Cane, of East Vandergrift; son, Anthony J. Orkwis, of Brackenridge; brothers, Richard H. (Mindy) Orkwis, of Natrona Heights, David M. (Victoria) Orkwis, of Kiski Township; nieces and nephews, Joe (Jenna) Orkwis, of Pittsburgh, Jason (fiance, Darci Miller) Orkwis, of Brentwood, Christin J. (Mark) Pears, of Elderton, Michael Orkwis, of Shady Plain, Jacob, Daniel and David Orkwis, of Kiski Township; great-nieces and nephews, Andrew, Darren, Arianah, Benen and Lena. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo.
