Donald G. Magner Sr.
Donald "Don" Magner, Sr. died peacefully on September 22, 2016 in his hometown of New Orleans at the age of 67. Don is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Don and Dionne Magner of Richardson, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law A.J. and Caitlin Magner of Lakewood, Ohio; his brothers Alvin "Sonny" and Jack Magner; his sister Beverly Bourgeois; and his five grandsons, Davis, Aidan, Nolan, Gus and Beau, who he loved very much. Don was born on February 8, 1949 in New Orleans to Alvin and Nora Magner. Don spent his formative years in the Irish Channel in the late 50s-early 60s and loved everything about that era. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra, watching movies starring the Rat Pack and sporting his favorite fedora. In his early twenties he accepted a position with NOLA Delivery and moved to Gretna. Over the next three decades he enjoyed a successful career in logistics, managing transport and distribution services for one of the nation's largest retailers. He retired in 2008 and spent his remaining years in Metairie, where he enjoyed spending time with friends and immersing himself in so many of the things that makes New Orleans, which he also loved, unique. A funeral mass is scheduled on October 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gretna. Reverand James Richard Day will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life. The family would like to thank the staff at Canon Hospice for their exemplary care for Don in his final days. In lieu of flowers or donations, do something extraordinary for someone in need.
