Donald George Higdon Co-owned elevator firm, belonged to Ridgewood Symphony, and taught special exercise method, 80 Donald George Higdon, 80, of West Windsor, N.J., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Princeton Medical Center. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, 408 Orange Rd., Montclair, N.J. Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, N.J., is in charge of arrangements. Born in Newark, N.J., Donald lived in Rutherford, N.J., and Ridgewood, N.J., prior to moving to West Windsor three years ago. Mr. Higdon was co-owner of Higdon Elevator Company in Hackensack, N.J., for over 40 years, retiring five years ago. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Ridgewood and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a board chair of the Board of Directors of Youth Consultation Services in Hackensack, a member of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, and an instructor of the Alexander Technique. He was predeceased by his brother, Darrin Higdon. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Martin Higdon; a son, Andrew D. Higdon of Quincy, Mass.; a daughter, Laura J. Higdon, Ph.D., of Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Mary Higdon of Mahwah, N.J., and several nieces. Donations in his memory to Y.C.S. Foundation, 25 East Salem St., 3rd Floor, Hackensack, N.J. 07601, would be appreciated.
