Donald Ray Hendrickson July 25, 1927 - April 13, 2017 Salem, Or - Our beloved husband, father, and grandpa, passed away on April 13. Donald married Doris on February 7, 1948. They remained happily married for 69 years. Don was born in Salem to William and Lula Hendrickson. After his service with the Navy in WWII, Donald worked for the Salem fire department for 33 years as a Captain. He worked in road maintenance on his days off throughout the week, and enjoyed farming and growing wheat and grass. One of his hobby's was participating in Antique Powerland showing hit and miss engines and tractors, and was manager of the show for many years. In the winter time he and Doris would travel to Arizona with their beloved dachshunds, escaping the cold winters in Oregon. He enjoyed taking his kids camping, fishing, boating, hunting, spending time with friends and family, always with a smile on his face. He loved being around his grandchildren, and would do anything for them. Don is survived by his loving wife Doris; daughter Janet (Bill) Frishman; son Alan (Cindy) Hendrickson, and grandchildren; Becky Price, Emily Miller, April Hendrickson; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wally Hendrickson, and sister Velma (Stubby) Lahoski. Services will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 19, at 10 am, with viewing at 9 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kindred Hospice, who gave the family loving support and guidance.
