In memory of
Donald Cleveland 1926 - 2016 Donald Cleveland passed away Friday, December 30, 2016, in Hillsboro, Oregon at the age of 90. Don was born on November 15, 1926, to Claude and Ruth Cleveland, in Ashland, Oregon. He lived in Azalea, Oregon and graduated from Glendale High School where he was class president and he played football. This is also where he met his future wife, Jean. They sat together in Plane Geometry and Advanced Math class, competing with each other to see who could finish the problems first. Don was drafted into the Army near the end of World War II. When he received his draft notice, some of his schoolmates asked where he hoped to go. He said he didn't care; as long as it was not Texas; however, two weeks after his draft notice, he was on a train to Mineral Wells, Texas, where he drove trucks and typed up discharge notices. When he returned home to Azalea on furlough, he and Jean had their first date; dinner at Wolf Creek Inn, a state heritage site. When he was discharged from the Army, he and Jean continued seeing each other and on January 18, 1947, they got married. Their daughter Adrienne Cheryl Cleveland was born on February 25, 1948. Don had many different jobs over the years, including working in mills, driving heavy equipment, building roads and welding, to name a few. He spent the end of his career at Eugene Water and Electric, working in the shop. He loved woodworking, and many of his friends and family have wooden pens that he made. Don is survived by his daughter Cheryl and her husband Scott, his sister-in-law, Berniece, his good friend Diane and numerous, much-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his brothers Ray, Scott and Charles, as well as his sister Virginia. A service will be held at a later date.
