Donald R. Arsenault
Donald R. Arsenault, 71, Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army Retired, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at home after a long illness. He was the longtime companion of Joann Lanosa of Tiverton, RI. Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Oscar Arsenault, Sr. and Yvonne (Cormier) Arsenault, he settled in Fairhaven in 1991 and was a communicant of St. Josephs Church. Donald served in Vietnam and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon with a Bronze Star and two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He later was an Army Rec ruiter for 10 years until his retirement in 1990 and received the National Guard Master Recruiter Badge. After the service Donald worked at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. He was a member of the DAV in Fall River and New Bedford where he was Past Commander, the VFW Post 2892 in Fair haven, the American Legion Poirier Post 492, New Bedford, the 101 Airborne Assoc., the First Calvary Division, Vietnam as well as numerous other Vietnam Organizations. He is survived by his companion Joann; His children, Donald O. Arsenault and Mary Ann Pacheco both of Fairhaven; three grandchildren, Ronnie, Andy and Krystal Pacheco; two great grandchildren, Tucker and Madison; two brothers, Oscar Arsenault, Jr. and Robert Arsenault; four sisters, Pauline Parkinson, Diane Whittaker, Rita Sylvia and Jackie Perkins; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was the brother of the late Gerard and Jeannette Arsenault and Yvonne Thompson. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7pm in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. His funeral will be Friday, October 21, 2016 at 9:00am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Josephs Church, Fairhaven.
