In memory of
Dolores Margaret "Dee" Lambert
LAMBERT Dolores “Dee” Margaret Dolores “Dee” Margaret Lambert, was an Irish Brooklyn girl, the youngest of four children, born on April 23, 1931 to Margaret and James Shea. She was a girl who stuck to her principles and, as a teenager, was voted “wittiest” and “most cheerful”. Her motto was “love and be loved” and she followed that simple motto her entire life. How beautiful. Dee was a loving wife who stood by her husband John for over 64 years. She would do anything for him, including traveling solo on a boat to Europe in 1952 to be with him in Bremerhaven, Germany during his service in the Air Force. They had so much fun in a life filled with world travel, square dancing, fencing, bridge parties, ski trips, tennis, sailing, epic St. Patrick's Day parties and shenanigans with their many friends and dear family members. Their inspirational love story included flirting into their 64th year of marriage and always saying “kiss, kiss” whenever their love song, Charmaine, played. The most important role to Dolores was that of a Mom. The early lessons she taught in life included a Saturday morning room cleaning before playing, being on your best manners at dinner (no elbows on the table!) and knowing right from wrong. Home was always a warm and safe haven for her own kids, and she and John served as a second family to so many others. In the 1970's when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she taught all of us about a positive attitude and not feeling sorry for oneself. She battled her earthly body for over 40 years without complaint. MS may have taken her off the tennis court and ski slopes, but it never broke her spirit and she enjoyed life regardless. She drove a go-cart (even though she was legally blind, nearly taking out the flagger). She loved her daisies and roses, her morning tea, the color pink and the Florida sunset. She never failed to enjoy life, even when her world was reduced to a bed, a chair and an audio book (she loved mysteries)! “Chickie” (a nickname given by her Dad) loved a party and was always ready when there was someplace to go. Now at age 85 she has gone to meet our Father in heaven on Sunday, January 8, 2017 after passing away at home surrounded by loved ones. Even in her final hours, she warmed us with her smile...a smile that, along with the Shea family wit and her everlasting love, blessed us our whole lives. She adored her husband John, her children and grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, her many friends and, in later years, had a special place in her heart for her caregivers. We can't think of a more pure woman. She had a beautiful heart, mind, and soul. John posted “Joy to the World” over Dee's bed during her final days. That sums up their love and who she was.
