In memory of
Dennis C. Allen FAYETTEVILLE: Mr. Dennis C. Allen peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the home of Robert and Muriel Brooks (daughter and son-in-law) in Fayetteville, N.C. He was 100 years old. Dennis was born on September 12, 1916, in Andalusia, Alabama, to the late Cleveland and Savannah Allen. In 1932, at the tender age of 16, he relocated to Mansfield, Ohio. There, he met and married the love of his life, the late Bennie Jean Jones Allen. From their blessed union, seven children were born. During World War II, Dennis moved to Detroit, Michigan to work in a munitions plant, but returned to Mansfield after the war and worked at Westinghouse until he retired in 1979. He also ran a hauling business in partnership with his beloved uncle, Gale Culliver, during that time, and after his uncle passed, Dennis continued in the business until the age of 92. Dennis loved to travel with his oldest son, the late Dennis Allen, and visited many of the 50 states, including Hawaii. He was a life member of the NAACP and was honored to see the inauguration of the first African American President, Barack Obama. Dennis was an active member Of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in Mansfield, and he participated in various auxiliaries with a mind to do all he could in an excellent way. His love and passion was visiting the sick and attending to their needs. When the church bus attended conventions and pleasure trips, Dennis, whom the church and Pastor Clinton Hearns treated as a father, was on board. In August, 2010, at the age of 94, Dennis relocated to Fayetteville, NC to reside with his daughter, Muriel, and his son-in-law Robert (Bobby) Brooks, who lovingly cared for him until he passed away. Under the watchful care of Bishop Jerry D. Swinney, Dennis attended services at Bethel Christian Assembly until his health would no longer permit him to do so. The entire church welcomed and respected him until the day of his passing. Dennis leaves to cherish his precious memory, his daughter, Lillian Y. Douglas and husband, Frederick of Marietta, Georgia; his son, Peter Allen and wife, Yolanda, of Mansfield, Ohio; and his daughter, Muriel R. Brooks and husband, Robert, of Fayetteville, NC. He leaves a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, his sister, Consuela Jackson, of Mansfield, Ohio, his special nephew, Winston A. Greene (Tony), of Mansfield, Ohio, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and many loving friends. In addition to his parents and beloved wife Bennie Jean, Dennis was preceded in death by three sons, Dennis Louis, Donald Jeffery and Larry Steven Allen; an infant daughter, Norma Jean; two sisters, Laurel Jane and Rosie Fowler; and three brothers, Robert, Cleve and Fred Allen. The services will be handled by Williams Funeral Services, 753 McPherson St., Mansfield, Ohio.
