In memory of
Delfina Anzaldua
Delfina C. Anzaldua 1942 - 2016 Delfina C. Anzaldua, 74, of Kenosha, Wis., was awakened into eternal life on Oct. 13, 2016, after battling cancer. She was born in McAllen, Tex., in 1942, the daughter of Jose Angel Contreras and Maria (Perez) Contreras. She was the oldest of nine siblings, whom she loved and cared for dearly. Delfina met her one and only true love Jose Ramon Anzaldua in Edinburgh, Tex. They fell in love and were married on Aug. 2, 1960, in Moreland, Minn., then moving from Lubbock, Tex., to Kenosha, Wis., in 1968. Those vows led them through 54 years of beautiful marriage, and are now reunited in heaven for eternity. Delfina was a devoted church leader, having been married to the Pastor of the Apostolic Missionary Church (of 44 years), where she is fondly called "Teacher Fina" for being a Sunday School teacher. She loved spreading the gospel, attending church festivities, and fellowship with other churches in the area and back home in Texas. She loved to recite Psalms 121 "I lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Delfina worked for many years as a social worker at the Kenosha Spanish Center, and loved helping her community and new immigrant families integrate. She also worked for many years at UW-Parkside, where she is so fondly remembered as 'Del'. Delfina had many joys in life, from cooking for her ever expanding family, spending time with her grandchildren, cheering on the Packers, coffee and red lipstick! Her family and friends will miss the way she glowed, her immense strength, her nurturing spirit, and her elegance. She is preceded in death by her husband Jose R. Anzaldua, her parents, one son Jose Jr., one grand-daughter Veronica, and two brothers Jose Luis and Manuel. She is survived by her sons Pablo Anzaldua and Ricardo Anzaldua, her daughters Maria Diaz-Steponits (Lawrence), Ester Escobedo (Francisco) and Sara Anzaldua Mueller (Grant), her 13 grandchildren, and her 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Apostolic Missionary Church Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at 10 a.m. (5824-7th Avenue) Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday evening at the church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
