Delbert E. Davitt Smith
WILKES-BARRE — Mr. Delbert E. Davitt Smith, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. He was born June 14, 1939, in Pittston, and was a 1957 graduate of Hanover Area High School. He was an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy for six years, and a member of the IBEW, Local No. 163, Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Smith taught apprentices in electrician programs for many years and proudly practiced the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous for 42 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alberta Smith; grandson, Matthew Hutchinson; and brother, Eugene Smith. Surviving are his wife, Linda Smith, of Elysburg; sons, Delbert Smith, of Willingboro, N.J., Ron Smith and his wife, Jane, of Hanover Township, Shawn Smith and his fiancee, Carol-Ann Rhodes, of New Media, and Scott J. Smith, of Elysburg; daughters, Rebecca Misson and her husband, Steve, of Edwardsville, and Margaret Smith, of Mount Holly, N.J.; grandchildren, Morgan and Jacob Smith; and sisters, Mary Lombardo and her husband, Dr. Joseph Lombardo, of Laflin, and Ann Petro and her husband, Ronald, of Shavertown. Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. Deacon Ray Lenahan, of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, will be celebrant. Military funeral honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy immediately afterward. Family and friends may call 4 p.m. to service.
