In memory of
Debbra Alena Hart
1948 - 2018 Woodland Debi Hart died peacefully at home late in the evening on Feb. 16. The debilitating illness that took her physical well-being never clouded her faith nor dampened her spirit. Those who love and miss her take great solace knowing she is happy and free in the home of the Lord. Debi was born in Albuquerque, NM, but she spent the formative years of her youth in her beloved Santa Barbara, a city she would visit often throughout her life and where she always felt "at home". In 1969 Debi married Paul Hart, and the two made Woodland their home for nearly 50 years. During that time, Debi worked as an administrative assistant for the Woodland School District, supporting teachers, administrators, students and their families both at Woodland schools as well as at the district office for more than 25 years. Focusing on her faith, Debi joined the congregation of St. John's Episcopal Church in Roseville. She loved being involved in the life of the church where she served on the vestry, on the alter, and in training acolytes. She was instrumental in bringing the Order of St. Luke to the parish. She worked on and promoted Cursillo whenever she could, and she truly loved the liturgy. Her church family knew her to be small in stature but mighty, and mighty she was when it came to living her faith. Those who knew Debi well were familiar with the gold chain that always adorned her neck, from which hung a Christian cross, the Star of David, and a heart. She wasn't conflicted, nor covering her bases; she was, in fact, honoring her mother's Christian roots, her father's Jewish heritage, and her deep love for both of them. When mobility become more challenging, Debi joined the local Bible Study group at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Woodland. For Debi, study of the Bible was both a faith journey as well as an intellectual pursuit that helped her to explore Christianity and its impact on humankind. It also was an important connection to friends who shared her faith. Upon the retirement of her husband, she and Paul enjoyed travelling which encompassed six continents. Her last trip was to Israel, a place she had longed to visit, in 2017 with her dear friend Kathie Weatherford.? Debi was preceded in death by her mother, Helen del Castillo Brook; her father, Eugene Brook, and her brother, Darrell Stevens. She is survived by her brothers, Jeff (Libby) Brook of Dixon, and Matt (Sandy) Brook of San Mateo; stepson, Kevin Hart (Kareen) of Santa Barbara; stepdaughters, Kim Hart of Cameron Park, and Lisa Andberg (Dan) of Carpenteria; countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins spread throughout California and across the country. Debi also leaves her constant canine companion, Merlot, who now takes on the responsibility of watching over Paul.? A celebration of Debi's life will take place on Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roseville. Donations in Debi's memory can be made to St. John's or a charity of the donor's choice.
