Deanna Mae (Smith) Tyszka, 75, of Windsor, beloved wife of fifty years to Peter Tyszka Sr., passed away in her sleep on February 9, 2017, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. Born April 22, 1941 in Hartford, daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth (Pihl) Smith, she grew up in Hartford, graduating from Hartford Public High School in 1959. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Wendy Bailey-Meyers and her husband, Joseph Meyers of Windsor, her son, Peter Tyszka Jr. and his wife, Carrie of Middletown; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Carina Tyszka, Connor and Nathan Bailey, and Taylor and Lauren Meyers. She also leaves her sisters Fay Slywa and Patricia Antrim and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Gail Michaels and her brother Alfred Smith Jr. After meeting on a blind date, she and Peter were married on April 11, 1966 and raised their family in Windsor. She retired from Food Enterprises in 2001, and spent her retirement traveling, crafting and sewing with her sister Fay, volunteering at church and enjoying time with her grandchildren. Deanna was a longtime member of Poquonock Community Church in Windsor. She was a talented seamstress and knitter; sewing her daughter's wedding dress and knitting and crocheting many baby sweaters and blankets over the years. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses from Kimberly Hall and Masonicare for their care of Dee in her last year, and especially acknowledge the kindness and support of hospice aide, Marie Donovan. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT. Funeral services will be held at Poquonock Community Church, 1817 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, at 11 am on Wednesday, February 15, with burial immediately following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor.
