Dr. David J. Thoennes Ph.D. HAMILTON SQUARE - Dave Thoennes, 68, of Hamilton Square passed away peacefully on January 10, at Compassionate Care Hospice in St. Francis Hospital. Dave was born in Kansas City, MO, where he attended Rockhurst College and received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry. He later received a Master's in chemistry from DePauw University, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry at Vanderbilt University. Dave completed his post doctorate work at the University of Nebraska and subsequently worked for American Cyanamid as a senior research chemist. He was with the company for 34 years before retiring from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in 2008. Dave volunteered as an instructor for Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). He enjoyed visiting and playing with his six grandchildren, Alex, Amanda, Nicholas, Christopher, Emma, and Megan, as well as gardening, photography, home projects, genealogy, and writing. Dave was the son of the late James E. Thoennes, and brother of the late Michael, Susy, Marsha, and Ruth Thoennes. He is survived by his mother, Helen Frieda (Vogl) Thoennes; three brothers, Marty (Peggy), Dan (Betty), Paul (Lisa), and a sister, Rita Worden. He also leaves behind his wife, Paula, and five sons, Joe (Audra), Phil (Sudha), Frank (Michelle), Jim (Alicia) and Tom (Melody). Family and friends may call 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday at Saul Colonial Funeral Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. The funeral will begin at the Saul Colonial Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Sorrows, 3816 E. State Street Ext., Mercerville, NJ. Burial will be private.
