David Silveira passed away suddenly on Dec. 26, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born to William and Gertrude Silveira on June 4, 1945, at Redwood Coast Hospital in Fort Bragg. He grew up in Rockport, later moving to Fort Bragg when he was in the seventh grade. After graduating, he attended California State University in Hayward where he earned a B.A. in art. Soon after, he served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. Returning to Fort Bragg, David joined the team at Georgia-Pacific lumber mill, working his way up to a lead man, for 30 years. David was kind-hearted and always gave a helping hand. He spent his days creating beautiful watercolor paintings of coastal surroundings. Every year he would plant a bountiful garden of vegetables, often giving most of them to friends, family and the Food Bank. He explored the coast with his camera in hand, and would take his dog, Lola, out to MacKerricher Park. David is survived by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Mary Silveira; daughters, Tina Silveira-Muehlenhard (Kris) and Sarah Eliason (Matt); his brother, Donald Silveira; and sister, Margaret Silveira. A service for David was held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Fort Bragg.
