David V. Morse
David V. Morse, 90 of Mackinaw City passed away Thursday morning, April 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by a loving family. He was born July 5,1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Harold and Muriel (Zimmerman) Morse. He graduated from high school and finished nearly four years of college. He was a four year Navy Veteran of WWll and also spent two years back in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked for the Aluminum Industry in Toledo, Cleveland, Bratenhl, Ohio, Niagra Falls, N.Y. and Chicago until 1970. and also lived in Woodsfield, Ohio. From 1980 to 1996 he was Captain of the Govt. Research Vessel "Shenahan" in the Great Lakes, many stops in Mackinaw City, St. Ignace and other ports. He moved with his family to Mackinaw City permanently in 1996. He was well known for his sense of humor, and was always upbeat even through health trials. Always a friendly person, was loved throughout northern Michigan. On Oct. 14,1949 he married Ruth Hansen in Angola, Ind., and she survives. Also four children; Michael (Peg) Morse, Mackinaw City, Randi (Randy) Paquet, Midland, Jennifer Morse-Griffen (Rob) Mackinaw City, Trudi (Dave) Harlan, Benson, Ariz., and a sister, Mary Antes, Wayland, Mass, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Muriel Burton and her husband Paul, and his parents. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 3 p.m. at St. Anthony Chapel in Mackinaw City with Sister Chris Herald officiating. Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace assisted with arrangements.
