David R. Fairchild
David R. Fairchild born February 18, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus, his Lord and Savior on October 8, 2016. He was surrounded by Irma, his devoted wife of 57 years, and many loving family members. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of nineteen. Among the countries he served in were Germany, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Taiwan, Philippines, and completed a twenty-year career on the East coast retiring as a Navy Lieutenant. Additionally, Dave was a Vietnam veteran, stationed aboard the USS Newport News. Prior to separating from the U.S. Navy in 1981, he visited several nursing homes in Maryland and his heart was captured by the elderly. Dave knew then the Lord was leading him to serve in the senior care community. He began his second career in 1981 working at Crista Ministries in Shoreline, Wash., for nine years. His training took him from being a nursing assistant to Director of Operations at Cristwood. From there he accepted a position as Executive Director at Warm Beach Senior Community, Stanwood, Wash., serving for eighteen years and retiring in July 2008. Dave advocated for the rights and care of the elderly meeting with U.S. Congressional leaders and Washington State legislatures. Dave received many certificates and awards for his contributions to the betterment of life for the elderly. Dave was an avid Mariners fan making many trips to Peoria, Ariz., for spring training with family in tow. Loving to be on the water, he taught his children to sail while living in Maryland. His grandchildren will treasure the memory of pancake breakfasts he enjoyed making for them. Family was his pride and joy. Dave had a collection of many Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour western novels. He and Irma enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Spain, and taking several cruises, but the highlight of their travels was the memorable trip to the Holy Land in 2009. Dave is survived by his wife, Irma, three children Dawn (Andy), Julie (Tim) and Eric (Linda); eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, John and Richard, sister, Joy, step father, Harry Crosby, sister-in-law, Kerry Fairchild, brother-in-law, Terry Harmon and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Faith. Dave was raised in the Methodist Church, however, upon their arrival to Washington State in 1981, he and Irma joined the Free Methodist Church. He was an active member and leader in his church. A celebration of Dave's life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday October 22, 2016, at the Marysville Free Methodist Church, 6715 Grove Street, Marysville. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Warm Beach Senior Community in Stanwood, Washington.
