David H. Carlson
With the taste of Hershey's chocolate on his lips, David H. Carlson, 82, said goodbye to us on Oct. 6, 2016. David was born to the Rev. Harry S. Carlson and Dorothea H.F. (Quaritius) Carlson in 1934 in Brockton, Massachusetts, where he lived until 1947, when the family relocated to Summit, New Jersey. He graduated from Upsala College in 1956. He married Marian Lee Carlson Carlson (Yes, her maiden name is Carlson.) at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford on Aug. 17, 1957. Together they raised two daughters in East Hartford, Deborah Ruth Carlson White of Orono, Maine, and Melissa Beth Carlson Golden of East Hartford. David was an idea man who loved to read, tell stories of his life and from history, share punny (sic) stories, and satisfy his insatiable curiosity by asking questions of everyone he met. He was proud of his daughters and their families, William D. Golden, Timothy J. White, Carl A. White, and Elizabeth R. White. He loved to visit with family and friends including his siblings, the late Rev. Theodore E. Carlson and wife, Elaine, Ruth Carlson Johnson and late husband, Robert, and Paul A. Carlson and wife, Willa; his wife's brother and late wife, David C. and Nancy E. Carlson, and his friend of 64 years, the Rev. Hartland Gifford and wife, Judy, and late wife, Carol. He also loved his nieces and nephews, Eunice, Nate, Dan, Alice, Carlene, Elizabeth, Erick, Kristine, Eric, and Sarah, as well as his grandnieces and nephews. David's professional life included stints at Hill City Deli, the Hartford Insurance Group, and the U.S. Postal Service. Generous to the end, David's last wish was fulfilled through the UConn Medical School Anatomical Donation program. Please join the family for a memorial service Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1120 Silver Lane, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Rescue Program www.mayflowercorgiclub.org or your local library would be appreciated. Please bring a book to swap after the service as we enjoy refreshments together.
