ARENZVILLE - David A. Carls, 81, of rural Arenzville, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Lavender Ridge in Jacksonville. He was born Feb. 6, 1935, near Beardstown, the son of Arthur R. and Myrtle C. Hendricker Carls. He married Althea Fricke on Sept. 21, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, and she survives. David is also survived by four children, Leesa (David Tobiasz) Carls of Marco Island, Florida, Steve (Susan) Carls of Beardstown, and Drew (Jenny) Carls and Marc (Tina) Carls, both of Arenzville; 10 grandchildren, Matt Tobiasz of Miami, Florida, Steve Tobiasz of Chicago, Katie Carls of Jacksonville, Chrissy (Matt) Vortman of Springfield, Jeffrey (Audrey) Carls of Arenzville, Jason Carls of Meredosia, Meghan Carls of Carbondale, Emily Carls of Arenzville, Derek Carls of Columbia, Missouri, and Rachael Carls of Chicago; one great-granddaughter, Emma Vortman; one brother, Glen A. Carls of Jacksonville; and one sister, Ruth (John) Werries of Chapin. He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Vortman; and one sister, Esther Dodgen. David was a lifelong farmer in the Arenzville community. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and held numerous offices in the church. David also served for several years on the Boards of the Arenzville Bank and Cass County Service Company. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
