NEWPORT NEWS - Dave Russell Call, born March 5, 1947, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Riverside Hospital. Dave retired as a Chief Petty Officer E6 after a long career with the United States Navy, He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother and he will be horribly missed. Dave left behind a wife of 49 years, Rita Faye Call; a son, John Call of Atlanta Georgia; daughter, Kristina Call of Yorktown; grandson, Avi Call two granddaughters, Cody and Kaylea Call; two sisters, Victoria Sanders and husband, Joe of Newport News, Barbara Ann Jones and husband, Larry of Newport News; many nieces and nephews, as well as aunts and uncles. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Call, Sr.; mother, Ethel Call; and brothers, Joseph Call, Jr., and Barry Wayne Call. Dave was an honest, straight forward, loving husband and grandfather, who with Rita has helped raise Cody and Kaylea in their home. He was very proud to have served in the Navy. He loved family and friends, and was always willing to give a helping hand or lend a much-needed opinion to a conversation. He was fun loving and giving. One of the great loves of his life was his dogs and cats. As of late, it was his cats, Oreo, Hunter, Keys, Buddy, and Toby. Dave will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends afterwards until 4:00 p.m.
