Daphne was born on September 7, 1932 in Winston-Salem, NC to James Newton and May Reade (nee: Doyle) Plaster. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and an associate member of Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. A Girl Scout Leader and Trainer, she volunteered for the N.A.S.W. Daphne worked for the Warren County Mental Health Services (also known as Solutions) as a supervisor of case manager social workers in Franklin. She worked to protect children involved in child abuse cases in court and helped codependent women achieve independence from dysfunctional relationships. She was a founding member of National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Warren County, Ohio. NAMI Warren County gives an annual Daphne Morrison award and Solutions named a residence after her for helping women with dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and mental illness. This, in addition to her work with race relations and racial equality, earned her recognition with the 1993 Ohio State Award for Outstanding Service given by the Ohio Chapter of the N.A.S.W. and in 2000, Social Worker of the Year in the Cincinnati region. She loved people in all their diversity and maintained relationships sharing a great variety of interests including nature conservancy, literacy, music (especially classical) and political advocacy. She found renewal in a lifelong love of the ocean and the mountains of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, George Thomas Morrison III and two brothers, Larry and Richard Plaster.
