Danny Buford Sr.
Danny Dale Buford Sr 1955-2017 Gautier Danny Dale Buford, Sr. went to be with the Lord March 12, 2017. He was born in Millington, TN, on a mountain top, on July 1, 1955. He was raised in Greenwood, MS and joined the United States Navy at the age of 19. After serving for six years on several different ships, he enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and later at the University of Southern Mississippi receiving a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, and a Master's degree in Program Management from Villanova. This is when he discovered his passion of encouraging and mentoring kids. In 1982, he began working at Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS and later transferring to Norfolk. VA. In 2014, he retired from Ingalls and begun working for the United States Navy in Pascagoula, MS. For over 40 years, he followed his heart and passion coaching baseball, with good friend Harvey Adams, at Bacot Park in Gautier, MS. He had the honor of holding several respected positions within the Babe Ruth and Cal Ripkin baseball organization such as: Gautier League President, District and State Baseball Commissioner, and Regional Senior Umpire. His other joys in life were spending time with his family, being a semi pro cook, gardening, woodworking, roughing-it while camping in his motorhome, and of course cheering for the New Orleans Saints! He was fortunate enough to witness the three greatest games in Saints history; The re-opening of the Superdome, the NFC Championship win, and winning the Super-Bowl. Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Breland and Madeline Ainsworth & Fulton Young: sister, Terri Lynn Buford and his brother, Ricky Buford, stepfather Kenneth Means, and his father and best friend Ewell Dale Buford. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Julia Nan Buford, mother Donna Marie Means & stepmother Jan Buford; brothers, Alan (Chen) Buford, Steven Buford, Christopher (Debbie) Buford, James Means, Brandon Curry; sister, Christina Curry; daughter, Karie Lynn (Steve) Owens; sons, Thomas Michael (Dianna) Tansil, Danny Dale (Brittany) Buford, Jr, Breland Andrew Buford, Roland (Jessica) Reynolds; nephews, Taylor Ferrell, Matthew Ferrell, Alan, Stephen, Connor Buford, James Means; nieces, Christy de Pierne, Meghan Ferrell, Tiffany Means; grandchildren, Cindy, Steven, Travis Owens, Danielle Brossard, Cord & Dylan Sartin, Tiffany & Isabella Tansil, Abigail & Emma Buford, Isabella Reynolds, and great-grandson, Zack Sartin. He will be remembered for his love of life and family, passion for mentoring kids, great sense of humor, and truth-telling stories. Visitation will be held at Gautier First United Methodist Church at 9am on Friday, March 17th, 2017. Visitation at 9:00AM service to follow at 10:00AM In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Babe Ruth and Cal Ripkin Baseball for Gautier. Inurnment with military honors will be Monday, March 20 at 9am at Biloxi National Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com .
