Daniel Crawford Perry (1923 2016) POST FALLS, Idaho - Graveside services for Col. Daniel Crawford Perry, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 93, will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. Col. Perry died Nov. 28, 2016, in Post Falls, ID, and will be buried at Elmwood with his parents and near his brother and fellow generations of Crawford family members. Col. Perry was born in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Brig. Gen. Basil Harrison Perry, U.S. Army (Ret.), and Lila Hall Crawford Perry of Columbia. As the son of a career Army officer, he spent his early years on various Army posts as well as in Washington, D.C., and West Point, NY. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, in 1945, as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. His 27-year career in the Air Force included tours at several bases and professional schools, the Pentagon, and three overseas assignments: Philippine Islands during WW II; as Commander of the 32nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands; and as Commander of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing at DaNang, South Viet Nam. He was a Command Pilot and flew many different types of jet aircraft, including F-86, F-102, and F-4. He received several awards and decorations, notably two Legions of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, seven Air medals, and the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1948, he and Mary Elizabeth Robertson of Charleston, SC, were married. They divorced in 1970, and in late-1971 he married Jeanne Weiser Schwanger. He retired from the Air Force in 1972, and maintained an active lifestyle as an avid fisherman, working in his yard, and traveling. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Perry of Post Falls, ID; son, Mikell DeWolf Perry (Susan) of Sunset, SC; daughter, Anne "Nancy" Hall Perry (Raleigh Powell) of Richmond, VA; step-daughter, Jonelle S. Greear (Charlie) of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and stepson, Erik Coral-Sands of Browns Valley, CA. He was predeceased by his brother, Maj. Harrison "Hank" Perry, U.S. Army, and his former wife, Mary. His grandchildren are Mikell Harrison Perry (Kate) of Edgewater, MD; Elizabeth Perry Hipp (Charles) of Greenville, SC; and Thomas Simeon Perry (Savannah) of Asheville, NC. His four great-grandchildren are Lila Win Hipp, Charles William Hipp III, Ava Rose Perry, and Grayson Harrison Perry. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
