Daniel M. Miller, 87 Loving great-grandfather, retired FDNY firefighter, past president of the Midland Beach Community Center Daniel M. Miller died on Oct. 13, 2016, at Staten Island University Hospital after a long illness. He was 87. Mr. Miller was born and raised in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He moved to Staten Island in 1962. In 1950 he married Theresa McCormick and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Drafted into the United States Army in 1952, Mr. Miller served as an infantryman with the 9th regiment in Korea in 1953. He was awarded the combat infantry badge and numerous service medals upon his discharge. After returning from Korea, Mr. Miller was employed by several NYC departments and in 1960 was appointed to the FDNY as a firefighter. He served for 21 years, retiring in 1981 from Ladder Company 83 Westerleigh. As an avid bowler, Mr. Miller was a member of a mixed league at Bowling on the Green, and along with his wife Theresa, his teammate, bowled for over 30 years. In the late 1980's Mr. Miller, along with a group of close neighborhood friends, obtained the deed for the Democratic Club in Midland Beach and renovated its interior. He was a past president of the Midland Beach Community Center. Mr. Miller is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Theresa. He was the beloved father of Eileen Meyers, her husband Ed, Daniel and his wife Denise, Nancy DiDomenico and her companion Andy, Elizabeth Vitucci and her husband Louis, and Gregory and his wife Lisa, and 14 cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His family and friends will celebrate his life on Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. at Saint Christopher's Church, Staten Island. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home.
