Dan Ridder, longtime publisher of the Press-Telegram and a prominent figure in the city's power elite for more than three decades, died early Thursday morning at his home in Hobe Sound, Florida. He was 94. Born May 3, 1922, Ridder was a third-generation newspaperman whose family - of the Knight-Ridder chain - once owned several papers throughout the country, including the Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the San Jose Mercury. His family purchased the combined Independent and Press-Telegram in 1952.
