D. Roger Grigson
D. Roger Grigson of Downingtown D. Roger Grigson, 83, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was the husband of Carol Kucera Grigson, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage. Born in Bryn Mawr, Roger was the son of the late William Herbert and Gretchen Schweitzer Grigson. A 1951 graduate of West Chester High School, Roger attended Cornell University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, and the American Legion Post #134. After military service, Roger became an insurance agent in 1958 and later established his own agency, which he ran with his wife until 2012. Active in community life, he became a Boy Scout leader in Troop 55 and later established Troop 134 in West Chester. His love of military history led him to initiate the World War II census for the Chester County Historical Society. He and his committee interviewed and collected data on over 13,000 veterans in Chester County. His last passion was saving the Ashbridge House, restoring it, and having it serve as the headquarters for the Downingtown Area Historical Society. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Geoffrey, Gregory, and Melissa Grigson; three grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, William H Grigson, Jr. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E Lancaster Ave., Downingtown.
