CRYSTAL BURNETT HUGHLEY
age 84 years young, returned to her heavenly home on Friday, January 6, 2017 after a courageous battle with a long illness. Crystal's devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace and spiritual healing. Crystal was born to the late Joseph and Alice Battle, in Cleveland, Ohio on July 6, 1932. She was blessed to be the second oldest of 6 brothers and sisters. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She graduated from John Adams. She was very active in her church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, participating in activities such as the missionary circle, the Quilting Club and was very vocal at the church meetings advocating for causes such as the need for the mid-day Bible study sessions for the senior members of the church. Crystal was a proud member of the Sew-Sew Club and also the African American Genealogy Group. Crystal is survived by her children, Rhonda Lowe (Tim), Kevin Hughley, and Kenneth Hughley (Jodi); her grandchildren Tim Lowe Jr., Victoria Lowe, Kayla Tome. She is also survived by her sister, Jo Ann Irby and brothers, Hilary (Kathleen) Battle and Carl Battle. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alice, sisters Retha Hall (Battle) and Wenzel Jones (Battle). Crystal also leaves to mourn a host of nieces and nephews as well as countless family and friends. Visitation Friday, Jan. 13; 11am until 7pm at Thomas G. Smith Funeral Home, Family receiving visitors at 4pm until 7pm. Home-going Services at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 7901 Quincy Ave., Saturday, January 14; 10:30am Wake,11:00am Home-going. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park. Repast immediately following at the church in the lower hall. Reverend Dr. David Cobb will officiate the service. Arrangements entrusted to Thomas G.
