Clyde I. Baker
Clyde I. "Doc" Baker, 88, of Waynesboro, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017, in his home. He was born January 28, 1929, in Ellsworth, a son of the late Glen E. and Muriel Wilson Baker. Mr. Baker was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in campaigns in Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Okinawa and the Dominican Republic. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Commendation Ribbon of Korea, Infantry Combat Badge and Good Conduct Medal with 6 loops. After his discharge, he was employed as a civilian at Fort Richie, Md. He had a total of 35 years in government service. Mr. Baker enjoyed taking care of his house and yard and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On August 11, 1960, he married Betty Gall Baker, who died November 30, 2000. They celebrated 40 years of marriage together. Surviving are two daughters, Misty Baker (Ron D'Alessandro) of Pittsburgh and Jody Gossert of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Muriel and Matthew D'Alessandro and Ryan (Courtney), Tasha, Joe (Christina) and Tim Gossert; two great-grandchildren, Shianne and Harlaina Gossert; two sisters, Faye Harr (Ed) of Beallsville and Frances Pitzer of Scenery Hill; a brother-in-law, Robert Gall of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Rose Baker of Beallsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are four brothers, Charles Baker and wife Frances, Duane "Dew" Baker and wife Shirley, William "Bill" Baker and Lawrence "Chub" Baker, who was killed in action in Korea; two sisters, Beryl Lobb and husband Al and Beatrice "BeBe" Grable and husband Joe; two brothers-in-law, Robert Pitzer and Bill Gall; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Gall and Betty Gall. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 17, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Interment will be held at a later date.
