August 17, 1922 – May 25, 2013 Clinton Williamson Pruitt, 90, of Bryan, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013. A time for family to receive friends will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Christ's Way Baptist Church, 3885 Copperfield Dr., Bryan with Brother Michael Curry officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Clinton was born to Vestus E. Pruitt Sr. and Ida Mae (Williamson) Pruitt in Lockney on August 17, 1922. He graduated from high school in Hobbs, New Mexico in 1940. Clinton attended Gail Business School in Abilene in 1940 and then went to work in Todd Ship Yard in Houston. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy three days after the attack at Pearl Harbor, serving in the Seabees construction unit as a Ship Fitter from 1942 to 1945. Following the war, Clinton worked as a vocational school instructor for fellow veterans in Burleson County. He also worked as a Volunteer Game Warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife in Burleson and Washington counties. Clinton was also a farmer and rancher for several years. In 1965 he joined the Local 84 Iron Workers Union and worked as an iron worker until his retirement at age 62. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fixing machinery and working on various projects in his shop. He also worked with his son, Barry, assisting him with his steel fabrication business for many years. He was an active member of Christ's Way Baptist Church in Bryan and loved spending time with his church family. Clinton attended various church and community functions, loved playing dominoes, telling stories and spending time with friends. He was affectionately known as "PePaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with his family was also very important to him. Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Vestus Pruitt Sr. and Ida Mae Pruitt; his brother, Vestus Pruitt Jr.; wife and mother of Barry and Glenda, Lois Pruitt; wife and mother of Kenneth and Janice, Emma Ruth Pruitt and grandson, Shawn Mohr. He leaves behind his children, Barry Pruitt Sr., Glenda and husband Joe Hunt Sr., Janice Mohr and Kenneth and wife Molly Miller; grandchildren, Barry and Tanya Pruitt Jr., Bradley and Christy Pruitt, Eric Pruitt, Natalie Pruitt, Clinton Avant, Joe Hunt Jr., Scosha and Jason Morgan, Regina Hightower and Andie Stanfield; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Shanda, Barry III, Caylee, Ashlyn, Brenna, Bailey, Hanna, Skyler, Cash, Tanner and Dylan and many nieces, nephews and friends.
