In memory of
Cleo N. Spain
Cleo Natalie Spain, born December 4, 1927, passed away on October 15, 2016 with all of her children at her bedside. Born to Leo and Anne (Young) Vigue in Saxon, WS., Cleo moved to Concord, NH at age 11, graduated from St. John's High School, married Joseph Spain and raised her family of five. She was a model mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her beliefs were family, faith, community. A needlework " Families are Forever" is prominently displayed in her living room as well as photographs of all family members. Until four months ago, Cleo was an active participant at Christ the King Parish, an avid booster and volunteer at St. John's Regional School, and assisted with elections at Ward 3. She had been employed at New Hampshire Savings Bank for more than 20 years after her primary role as a mother and homemaker were fulfilled. She loved life. Her positive attitude was infectious. She believed that all life is a gift, a mystery and is sacred. Mom was affectionately referred to as "the colonel." She was our disciplinarian, but also our cheerleader. As we matured, she became our friend, mentor and role model. She was open minded and yet deeply principled. Her attitude was "I'm ok, you're ok-we are all one."" She approached the end of her life with strength and dignity. She was pensive, reflective, but always positive. She never complained and was always thankful and grateful. She taught us how to die with dignity and live with passion. Toward her final days, she often said "I'm ready but I don't want to leave you kids." Family members include her children, Steven and Debbie Spain of Manchester, NH, Dough Spain of West Palm Beach, FL., Susan and Dennis Denoncourt of Laconia, NH, Kathy Rheaume of Penacook, NH and Joe and Kathy Spain of Concord, NH as well as her loving sister Anita Fowler of Bowie, MD. She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-six years, Joseph Spain; her brother, James Vigue and her grandson, Devin Denoncourt and her son-in-law, Douglas Rheaume.
