Clayton H. HELVEY
Clayton H. Helvey, 84, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2013. He was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters whom he dearly loved. He was a founding member and deacon of Solid Rock Baptist Church. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was a dedicated employee of General Electric for over 30 years. He loved to vegetable garden, and hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and sibling. Survivors include his wife of almost 54 years, Bettie Helvey; mother-in-law, Mabel Stubbs; three sons, Jim Helvey and wife, Lori, Frank Helvey and wife, Marie, and Charles Helvey and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Katie Helvey and fiance, Justin Reed, Tommy, Robert, Tracie, and Sarah Helvey; brothers and sister, Virgil, David and Cinda; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Oakey's South Chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the funeral home.
