CLAUDIA MONTOYA Claudia Montoya, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at her Santa Fe home following an extended illness. She was born November 4, 1927 in Nambe, NM, the daughter of Anita Herrera Valdez and Jose G. Valdez. She and Arsenio (Sapo) Montoya were married in Santa Fe on August 8, 1953. He preceded her in death in October 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Jose Valdez; brothers, Tranquilino (Theresita) Valdez, Rogelio (Petrita) Valdez, Geronimo Valdez, Frank (Dora) Valdez, Esmel (Cecilia) Valdez, and Jose (Flora) Valdez; sisters, Rumalda Valdez, Guadalupe V. (Thomas) Romero, and Cresensiana V. (Catalino) Ortiz, brother-in-law, Johnny Montoya, and sisters-in-law, Margie (Gilbert) Ulibarri and Cecelia Montoya. Claudia is survived by her daughter, Anna Jean (Johnny) Sanchez; Grandchildren, Audra Griego, Johannah Sanchez; great grandchildren, Joshua (Kylene) Gutierrez, Briana Gutierrez, and Joey Gutierrez; sisters-in-law, Martha Jane (Joe) Vasquez and Rosie (John) Schubert; brothers-in-law, Joe (Susie) Montoya and Nathan (Joann) Montoya; sisters-in-law, 3 step grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, and John, Jr. Sanchez; 13 step-great grandchildren, and one step-great great grandchild. She worked for Santa Fe National Bank and First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo) between 1949 and retiring in 1984. She was a member and volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center, winning Olympic Medals in the race walk, and enjoying line dancing and other activities. She sang in the choirs at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis and at St. Anne's Spanish Mass. Her family expresses a special thank you to PMS Hospice for all the compassion and care that was given to my mother. A very special thank you to Julie Sanchez for the past three years of helping Anna care for her mother. Anna is truly grateful. Special thank you to Charlene Clayton for bringing mother holy communion every Sunday Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Rivera Family Kiva Chapel, where a rosary will be recited that same evening at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19 at 1:00 pm. at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Pallbearers will include Joshua Gutierrez, Edward Valdez, Leonard Romero, Nathan Montoya, Richard Ulibarri, and Robert Toya.
