March 6, 1924 - Oct. 14, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY Clarence C "Porkey" Smith was born March 6, 1924, in Buffalo, OK to Cliff and Opal Smith. He attended high school in Coldwater, KS and graduated in 1942. Clarence volunteered to serve his country and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He attended Northwestern State College in Alva, OK and graduated from there on May 19, 1950. Clarence met his "sweet little red headed" wife, Mary Johnson, during his college days, and they were married Aug. 24, 1947. They shared a wonderful 69 years together. They had one child, Mary Teresa "Terry" born Oct. 8, 1949. Clarence worked in Ponca City in the Conoco Research and Development Dept. and retired as Director of Research Services Jan. 1, 1985, after 35 years of service. Clarence and Mary enjoyed their retirement years wintering in Rockport, TX and spending summers at home in Ponca City. Six years ago, they moved to OKC to be near their daughter. Clarence and Mary were members of Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City, where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Ponca City Masonic Lodge. Clarence died after a three week illness Oct. 14, 2016. He was 92 years old. He is survived by his wife, Mary Smith, of OKC; and his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Cary and Terry Fisher, of OKC; his granddaughter, Dr. Rebecca Faulkner Branum and husband Matthew Branum and great-grandchild, Ty Faulkner, of OKC; grandson, Dr. Brian Fisher and wife Kimberly Fisher and great- grandchildren, Evelyn, Marianne, and Ewan Fisher, of Lubbock, TX; and his sister, Bonnie Smith Ward, of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Opal Smith; brothers, Darrell and JK Smith; and sisters, Evelyn Bibb and Merrianne Haun. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel with a burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
