Laura, Christie Laura Lynn Berndt Christie, (Punky), 58, Oshkosh, passed away on 10-05-2016 peacefully in her sleep at her home. She did not suffer, and she is no longer in pain. Please lift her in your thoughts and prayers. Laura is finally at peace, no more suffering. She was born on November 12th, 1957, the daughter of Gene Bryan Berndt and Sylvia (Sally) Hellen Smrz Berndt in Plover Wisconsin.She was a graduate of University of wisconsin-stevens point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music and English literature. She enjoyed working at EAA in Oshkosh. She had many fond memories of working closely with EAA founder Paul Poberezny, Pete Chapman and Pete Eide as the director of outdoor exhibits coordinator. After EAA she worked at The Roxy Supper Club. Owners Bob and Kathy Wolf and Jim Reiter treated her like family. She was also well known for being an aerobic dance instructor and bartender as well as patronizing many taverns in town. She cared very deeply for her dogs. She was extremely proud of Little One and how smart he was at doing tricks on command. His son Little Two was equally as good. Her latest work-in-progress was Troi who was a close companion that never disappointed and Rufus the the Carin Terrier who was never shy about expressing his opinion about things. She had a passion for life. She enjoyed bicycling from the Wiouwash trail to Menominee Park and throughout the downtown. When she wasn't on her bicycle or working she was well know as an artist. She focused on using graphite and acrylic. She especially enjoyed doing portraits of people and pets. She was a devoted Packer fan, enjoyed many Harley rides, cribbage, downhill skiing and golf. On 4/05/06 She married Steve, the love of her life and they spent many happy years together. She loved music and especially the blues. She treasured visiting the crossroads in Helena, Arkansas as well as Las Vegas and many other places. She's going to be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her husband Steven Christie, twin sister Melina (Mike) and her sister Deborah (Opal) Renderman Berndt, brother-in-law Dale (Cork) Renderman and Aunt Carol Smrz. She is preceded in death by her parents Gene Bryan Berndt and Sylvia (Sally) Hellen Smrz Berndt. A special thanks to her sister Debra (Opal) Berndt Renderman, brother-in-law Dale (Cork) Renderman, Joan Atkins, Tom, Debra Gay and everyone who helped raise her spirits with visits, gifts, errands, appointments and caring attention during Laura's illness. Also a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and health care providers who cared for her. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 22nd, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Twisted Roots, 693 N Main Street, Oshkosh, WI. Food will be catered and limited open bar. Please bring along a fond memory, a joke she may have been involved in or a story and be ready to share!
