Charlotte Bennett Smith Greer Charlotte Bennett Smith, 73, of Greer died peacefully with her family by her side Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at a local hospital. A native of Greenville, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Janet B. and Thomas D. Bennett. Charlotte attended area schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1961. She worked thirty-eight years at both Greenville General and Memorial Hospitals until her retirement in 2000. She lovingly assisted in the births of thousands of area infants during her celebrated tenure as technician and teacher of interns and residents who valued her experience. She proudly assisted in the births of two grandchildren and one nephew. In retirement she changed her career from birthing babies to baking cakes. In fact, she was known by her co-workers as "the Cake Lady." On any given Saturday, she and her daughter Meg could be found at the Greenville County Farmers' Market on Rutherford Rd. selling delicious cakes and sharing samples with all. Charlotte is survived by her beloved daughter, Meg (Randy) Ragsdale of Easley, two sisters, Janet B. Martin of Great Falls, VA, Mary (Randy) McWhorter of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Ragsdale of Austin, AR, Nichole C. Ragsdale of the home; one great granddaughter, Emma J. Ragsdale of Austin, AR, and nephews Matt Tatham of Mt. Pleasant and Tom Martin of McLean, VA; niece Shannon Nordeman of New York City and Larry Smith (Meg's Dad) of Pelzer. Charlotte will be remembered for dedicating herself to birthing and women's health issues. She was selfless, humble, loving and kind with a quick wit and dynamic personality. "Z" (as her family referred to her) demonstrated hard work, respect and love without exception and truly lived to love others. She will be missed by the many lives she touched. A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 14, at National Health Care located at 1305 Boiling Springs Rd, Greer. A special thank you to her friend and caregiver, Lakeesha Hernandez, and the many loving staff members at her "happy place," NHC, Greer.
